Hardware Telemetry Benchmark: L.U.N.A. on NVIDIA RTX 5080
Empirical Evidence from 25 Inference Runs: How Neuro-Symbolic Control Reduces Inference Latencies and Why Local LLM Handling is Being Revolutionized.
To move the discussion about L.U.N.A. from purely theoretical considerations to a robust scientific basis, we conducted a synchronous hardware telemetry test series. Measurements were taken natively on a local workstation equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (16 GB VRAM) and the model Gemma 4 26B (IQ4_NL GGUF) under the Huginn Manager.
Methodological Experimental Setup: How Was It Measured?
To obtain reliable, reproducible values, the benchmark was set up as an automated test suite (telemetry_benchmark_suite.py). Testing was performed directly on physical hardware without synthetic throttling.
The Test Environment (Hardware & Software)
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (16,303 MB VRAM)
- CPU & RAM: AMD Ryzen System with 64 GB DDR5 RAM
- Inference Engine: Huginn Manager (asynchronous ticket pipeline for decoupled model orchestration in the local network)
- Inference Backbone:
gemma-4-26B-A4B-it-UD-IQ4_NL.gguf(quantized 26-billion parameter model) - Telemetry Acquisition: Native hardware monitoring via
nvidia-smiandpsutilat a 250ms interval (sampling GPU utilization in %, VRAM in MB, power consumption in W, as well as CPU and RAM load) - Cache Busting: Each run utilized a dynamic seed (
int(time.time() * 1000) % 100000 + run) to completely prevent server-side prompt and result caching in Huginn, forcing true inference.
What Was Tested? The 5 Test Domains (D1 – D5)
Each domain challenges a specific vulnerability of stochastic language models and tests how L.U.N.A.'s deterministic guardrails engage:
- D1: Deterministic Logic & Emergency Triage (Life-over-Limb)
- Scenario: Critical resource scarcity in an emergency department (only 1x Thrombolytic, 1x Ultrasound) among three competing patients:
- Patient A (62): Ischemic stroke 2h ago, but severe GI bleed 14 days ago.
- Patient B (45): Fulminant pulmonary embolism in shock (BP 75/50).
- Patient C (71): Acute STEMI, but hemodynamically stable on O₂.
-
Test Criterion: Does the model recognize the absolute contraindication for Patient A (administration leads to bleeding) and deterministically prioritize Patient B based on Life-over-Limb?
-
D2: Code Synthesis & Hotspot Resilience (16-Bit Astrophotography)
- Scenario: Generation of an image registration function using OpenCV (
cv2.warpAffine) for 16-bit astronomical images. -
Test Criterion: Does the system prevent the classic "hotspot problem" (unintended implicit type casting to
CV_8U/ 8-bit, which destroys 99.6% of the astronomical image dynamic range) and immediately provide runnable, validated code? -
D3: Constraint Satisfaction & VRAM Scheduling
- Scenario: Three tasks (10 GB / 40s, 7 GB / 20s, 4 GB / 15s) must run on a GPU with a strict 16 GB VRAM limit.
-
Test Criterion: Mathematically optimal execution schedule (Makespan minimization) while adhering to the 16-GB limit without an Out-of-Memory crash.
-
D4: Pragmatic Empathy & De-escalation Under Stress
- Scenario: Massive user frustration before a deadline ("Damn it, MemoryAllocationError, the project has to be done in 1 hour!").
-
Test Criterion: Does the model revert to subservient AI platitudes ("I'm sorry you are frustrated...") or immediately switch to terse, deterministic triage (requesting stack trace & error line, wasting no time)?
-
D5: Context Fidelity & Identity Security (Needle Drift)
- Scenario: Targeted query of architectural integrity: Identity, cryptographic security of the CA (Ed25519), and systemic error management.
- Test Criterion: Does L.U.N.A.'s identity remain unshakably stable, or does the underlying base model dilute the system boundaries?
The Test Mode: A/B Comparison
Each individual test was performed in N = 5 consecutive runs:
* Group A (L.U.N.A. Prime): Gemma 4 26B, controlled by the LunaDirectiveManager (neuro-symbolic a-priori conditioning).
* Group B (Gemma 4 Raw): The same model on the same hardware, but completely unregulated and without the symbolic control layer (apply_luna = False).
Open Source: The Benchmark Code for Reproducibility
Scientific integrity requires transparency. The suite is available for verification and for independent measurements on local hardware:

2. Core Insights from Telemetry Data
A. Elimination of Stochastic Extreme Outliers
While the unregulated model (Gemma Raw) devolved into uncontrolled reasoning loops during complex code generation (D2), requiring up to 153.76 seconds, L.U.N.A. remained tightly clocked and deterministically stable with 49.24 s (±3.67 s).
B. Cognitive Load Reduction Under Pressure (D4)
Under acute frustration and stress, the raw model delivered long, theoretical text walls (Avg. 325 Tokens in 33.20 s). L.U.N.A. throttled the response volume to the essentials (Avg. 101 Tokens in 16.86 s), providing an immediate course of action without preamble—a halving of the response time.
C. VRAM Limit and GPU Utilization
Both systems nearly saturated the memory of the RTX 5080 with ~15.8 GB VRAM. Because L.U.N.A. steers the model purposefully, the GPU ran at a consistently high throughput (Avg. 93–96% Load in D1/D2), finishing inference significantly earlier and relieving the hardware by 33.8% of the total operational time.
3. Pros and Cons
Pros
- No OOM Crashes on Local 16-GB GPUs: Shorter, precise token chains (Avg. 277 vs. 433 Tokens) prevent the uncontrolled swelling of the KV cache in VRAM.
- Persistent Error Prevention: Through the Herdplatten Principle (Herd Plate Principle), inadmissible type conversions (e.g., CV_8U in astrophotos) are blocked from the outset.
- Thermal Relief: Over a third less inference time translates to significantly lower heat generation and quieter fans on local AI workstations.
- Triage Safety: Absolute contraindications (e.g., GI bleeding prior to thrombolysis) are reliably detected and enforced.
Limitations & Disadvantages (Cons)
- Didactic Maintenance Effort: L.U.N.A. is currently in the knowledge evolution stage ("Academy"); rules and domains must be structuredly inputted.
- No Magic in Pure Mathematics (D3): For purely combinatorial puzzles without room for action, the time saving (-8.4%) is more moderate than for open-ended tasks.
- Framework Coupling: The system requires an orchestrating middleware, such as Huginn, to inject the directives before token start.
4. Scaling Calculation: From Local AI PC to Data Center
The individual gain of approximately 17 seconds per query scales massively once transferred to production environments:
Local Workstation (Developer Daily Use)
For someone performing 100 to 200 local inference queries daily (code reviews, triage, image analyses) on their local GPU: * Time Savings: Over 45 minutes per day in pure waiting time before the terminal. * Stability: Zero crashes due to context overflows.
Data Center / Cloud Cluster (8x NVIDIA H100 Node)
A typical 8-accelerator node draws approximately 6.5 kW under full load: * For 100,000 Queries (Gemma Raw): 1,394.6 Node-Hours \rightarrow 9,065 kWh of Electricity. * For 100,000 Queries (L.U.N.A.): 923.0 Node-Hours \rightarrow 5,999 kWh of Electricity. * Savings: 471.6 Cluster-Hours, over 3,065 kWh of energy, and approximately €11,300 in saved cloud rental costs per month.
Conclusion
L.U.N.A. demonstrates in practice that deterministic neuro-symbolic approaches are superior to raw Large Language Models. For local workstations, it provides the necessary stability and speed to make local LLMs reliably usable in daily workflows. For data centers, the same architecture translates into tangible energy and cost savings.
